Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities

What is NORP?

NORP stands for the Neighborhood Out-Reach Program. The program was developed by the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities (OSRR) and the Boise Police Department BSU Unit as a way to connect with the students and community members living in close proximity to BSU. The goal of the program is to help develop a positive environment where students and their neighbors can more easily interact and communicate with one another. This is accomplished through visits to residences each Fall and Spring semester by a member from OSRR and the Boise Police Department BSU Unit. The primary area of focus for the visits encompasses the neighborhoods located between Broadway Ave. on the east, Capital Blvd. on the west, and Boise Ave. & Beacon St. on the south.

We want to help make living close to Boise State University a great experience for everyone involved. Sometimes students forget that they are no longer living in a community setting on campus and thus their actions may have negative consequences with their neighbors in the community.

By doing proactive outreach, our goal is to help remind students to be respectful of the neighborhood, neighbors and environment around them. We also want to provide them with support resources should they run in to challenges living in a community setting. Students are encouraged to review the Being a Good Bronco Neighbor information, which can be found here (LINK to Handout).

In addition, we want to provide our good Bronco Neighbors (both students and community members) with resources they can access should they encounter difficulties or concerns living close to the University. Information on Neighborhood Watch Programs, Anonymous Tip Lines for crime and various other information to establish a good, safe community can be found by visiting the Boise Police Department website.
